Terms of Service
These terms cover the Harlan Ferments website, the notes published on it, and the way those notes point at videos on YouTube. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What this site is
Harlan Ferments publishes notes that go with a YouTube channel about home fermentation, or pretty much anything else of interest to the publisher. The site is for reading. It does not sell products, take payments, or host accounts. There is no comment section.
Not professional advice
Posts and videos are personal notes from one kitchen. They are not medical, nutrition, or food-safety advice, and they are not a promise that a ferment is safe to eat. Ferments can spoil. Use your own judgment, reliable food-safety guidance, and common sense. You are responsible for what you make and what you eat.
Videos
Some posts embed a YouTube video or link out to one. The video plays on YouTube’s player. When you press play, YouTube receives that request under its own terms and privacy policy, and it may set cookies. Harlan Ferments does not control YouTube.
Your use of the site
You may read the pages and share links to them. Do not misuse the site: do not try to break it, scrape it in a way that overloads it, or present the notes as your own work. Do not copy the text, photographs, or logo for your own channel or product without permission, except where the law already allows it.
Intellectual property
The Harlan Ferments name, logo, photographs, and post text are owned by their author unless a post says otherwise. Third-party video embeds remain the property of their creators.
Privacy
This is a static site. It does not ask you to create an account, but may from time to time show advertising. Page visits are counted in aggregate by GoatCounter. That counter does not use cookies. It records that a page was opened, not who you are. The company that hosts the files (for example GitHub Pages) may keep ordinary server logs. If you email the address below, that message is handled like any other email. Embedded videos are covered in the Videos section above.
No warranty
The site and the notes are provided as-is. They may be wrong, out of date, or unavailable. There is no warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted access.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Harlan Ferments is not liable for any loss or injury connected with your use of the site, a recipe, or a video, including spoiled food, damaged equipment, or decisions you make from the notes. Some places do not allow certain limitations, so this section applies only as far as the law permits.
Changes
These terms may be updated as necessity may demand. The new terms apply from the time they are posted and the date is noted below.

Governing law
